Position Summary
This position serves as a Certified Peer Support Specialist, a fully integrated member of the Center-based teams, UNC STEP clinics, and community team (The Farm at Penny Lane). The responsibilities of the Certified Peer Support Specialist include: * Promote self-determination, recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction for individuals served by the STEP Clinics and the Farm. * Assist individuals in identifying strengths, wellness goals, setting objectives, and identifying barriers to managing mental health. * Attend case review meetings to promote the use of self-advocacy tools. * Assist in goal planning and participate in treatment planning. * Model self-advocacy skills for addressing disclosure issues or requesting job accommodation. * Teach wellness management strategies. * Use manualized strategies such as Emotional Recovery (ER), and Wellness Recovery Action Plan ( WRAP ), and others. * Connect individuals to support groups offered in the clinics and also to the broader community to build support networks, promote hope, problem solve and decrease isolation * Share their personal story to model how to choose, obtain, and keep mental health stable. * Support making informed decisions about building community connections. * Build social skills in the community that enhance personal growth and connections.
