Mental Health Specialist (3rd Shift)

Program & Location: Brockton, MA
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in health and human services field preferred.
Pay Range: $21 - $26 (Experience and Education dependent)
Shift: 3rd Shift 11pm - 730am
Status: Full time, Part Time

High Point & Affiliated Organizations is a health and human service agency whose mission is to prevent and treat substance use and mental health disorders. High Point has programs located throughout Southeastern Massachusetts offering a full continuum of care for substance use and mental health treatment, including inpatient, outpatient, residential, and community-based services. Programs and services also assist survivors of abuse, violence, and families experiencing homelessness. High Point believes that everyone has inherent goodness, worth, and dignity. Mental Health Specialist – Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
  • Facilitate assigned groups and complete accurate, timely group documentation
  • Monitor and supervise patients during meals, groups, lectures, and approved activities, including outside privileges
  • Provide direct supervision of patients on the unit to support safety and treatment goals
  • Assist with routine and emergency medical and psychiatric situations, including safety checks, 1:1 observation, and emergency response procedures
  • Support crisis intervention and de‑escalation in accordance with High Point training protocols
  • Serve as a campus responder using walkie‑talkie communication systems
  • Observe, document, and communicate patient behaviors and interactions to nursing and clinical staff, and participate in treatment team discussions as required
  • Participate in rehabilitative, therapeutic, and recreational activities with patients
  • Assist with admissions and discharges, including completion of required paperwork
  • Conduct room and bag searches when indicated, following program policy
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment, including light housekeeping as directed
  • Attend all required meetings, trainings, and educational conferences
  • Always adhere to standard precautions and infection control practices
  • Demonstrate respect for patient rights, dignity, and confidentiality
  • Maintain required competencies and certifications
  • Perform all Mental Health Worker responsibilities and other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Nurse Manager, or Clinical Program Director

Mental Health Specialist – Requirements

  • Knowledge of behavioral health conditions and substance use disorders
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional therapeutic boundaries
  • Understanding of ethical standards and confidentiality requirements
  • Ability to set limits and enforce program rules in a respectful, supportive manner
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, including the ability to address scheduling, training, and personnel‑related issues
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Certification in an HPTC‑approved de‑escalation program or willingness to complete training
  • Ability to complete required annual TB screening

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health or human services field preferred
  • Prior experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or a related field preferred
  • Peer Certification or Recovery Coach training preferred, or willingness to complete training within six months of hire
