Are you passionate about mental health and looking for a meaningful career where you can make a real impact? Legacy Behavioral Health is seeking a Peer Specialist to join our team in Lowndes County. Under general supervision of peer services and dedicated program, provides peer support services to program in the form of group facilitation and one-on-one peer support. Performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers in regaining control over their own lives and over their recovery process including advocacy, providing resources to connect with other peers, WRAP plan development, and use of lived experience and personal recovery story. Functions as a role model of maintaining recovery and ongoing utilization of wellness and recovery tools. Monitors peer progress towards treatment goals. Extensive documentation required; accurately charts services and peer progress. Participates in staffing/planning sessions and offers a Peer perspective on treatment. The Peer will be supervised by the Residential Director.. Requirements: High school diploma or GED  Associate degree in field of human services preferred Eligible for Certification as a Peer Specialist or Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist by the state of Georgia and obtain certification within 6 months of hire. Must have a good working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office. Utilizes discretion in handling the organization’s confidential information and consumer-protected information. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Must have a valid driver’s license Must have a Mental Health and/or Substance Use Diagnosis Must have received at least one year of active treatment and currently be receiving only maintenance treatment (psychiatrist, therapy, and support groups such as AA, NA) Must be in recovery, clean and sober, for at least 2 years No incarceration or law enforcement involvement in the last 2 years Must be able to provide 2 letters of recommendation from someone who has had an impact on your recovery (mental health specialist, natural support, law enforcement official, etc.) Benefits: Competitive pay EAP Resources Why Legacy? Working Conditions: Must be physically and emotionally fit to work in a stress-filled environment to meet deadlines and deal with routine and crisis situations. May have extended periods of sitting, walking, and standing. Requires varying hours of duty to provide monitoring, educational and/or crisis handling, as well as travel to off campus locations in BHSGA or personal vehicle.    Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: Must be able to lift fifteen to twenty-five pounds and endure extended periods of standing on a daily basis.
