Summary

Under the supervision of the Neighborhood Outreach and Wellness (NOW) Program Coordinator and the Director of Recovery Services, the Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) provides peer-based recovery support, outreach, and engagement services as part of the Neighborhood Outreach and Wellness (NOW) mobile unit initiative funded by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH).

The CRPA plays a key role in connecting individuals to recovery, harm reduction, and holistic wellness services throughout Brooklyn, including mobile street outreach, peer coaching, linkage to care, and community education. This position expands access to equitable recovery services, fosters peer workforce development, and enhances engagement in care for vulnerable and underserved populations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned)

· Provide individual and group peer recovery coaching using multiple pathways of recovery.

· Support participants in developing person-centered Recovery and Wellness Plans.

· Assist peers in identifying and navigating barriers related to housing, employment, and healthcare access.

· Offer on-demand connections to recovery services, harm reduction resources, and crisis support lines (e.g., OASAS HOPELine, OMH 988).

· Conduct follow-up engagements and ongoing support to promote sustained recovery.

· Conduct mobile and street outreach on foot and as part of the NOW mobile unit.

· Engage individuals experiencing homelessness, public substance use, or overdose risk; offer education, harm reduction tools, and linkage to care.

· Participate in Quick Response Team (QRT) deployments with community partners following overdose incidents.

· Support “pop-up” recovery events to promote community awareness, stigma reduction, and holistic wellness.

· Track engagement metrics to help meet yearly targets

· Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and certification maintenance through the Peer Professional Workforce Development (PPWD) program.

· Support peer-to-peer wellness events, share lived experience, and mentor peers seeking CRPA or related certification.

· Assist in coordinating vocational development activities such as résumé writing, interview preparation, and credentialing reimbursement processes.

· Build rapport with community stakeholders, including law enforcement, healthcare providers, harm reduction organizations, and local businesses.

· Advocate for equitable recovery-oriented systems of care that reflect community values and diverse lived experiences.

· Participate in community listening sessions, advisory board meetings, and coalition efforts as assigned.

· Maintain accurate documentation of peer encounters, referrals, and service outcomes in compliance with DOHMH grant and OASAS standards.

· Submit required reports to the Program Coordinator, including engagement counts, Narcan trainings,

and community education events.

· Support quality improvement efforts and ensure fidelity to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered care models.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

• Active Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA or CRPA-P) credential in good standing with NYCB or ASAP-NYCB.

• Minimum 1 year of experience providing peer support or recovery coaching.

• Valid NYS driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Brooklyn.

• Familiarity with harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and multiple pathways to recovery.

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

· Certified Recovery Coach

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

· Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole).

· Experience conducting mobile or street-based outreach.

· Familiarity with OASAS/DOHMH documentation and reporting systems.

· Knowledge of LGBTQ+, veteran, and justice-involved populations.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role operates across both fixed and mobile settings, including the BCRC center, the NOW mobile unit, outdoor public spaces, and community partner sites. Work may involve evening or weekend shifts to meet outreach and event needs.
