Pay Scale: $17
Location: Co-located in Forsyth and Stokes Counties. 

Summary:
Utilizes their lived experience with the healing process of recovery from psychiatric, trauma, and/or substance use challenges to offer assistance and support to promote another peer’s own personal recovery. Has been trained to assist others in initiating and maintaining long-term recovery and enhancing the quality of life for the individuals they work alongside. Is assigned to an interdisciplinary team and works in collaboration with the team.

  • Duty or Responsibility
    Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Interacts with program participates and co-workers with empathy and respect, maintaining dignity and confidentiality. Uses trauma sensitive communication skills to engage clients.
  • Educates clients with treatment team input regarding potential referral sources to coordinate services for clients.
  • Demonstrates and understanding of the procedures for responding to a crisis both for the individuals served and person providing peer support services.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conduct daily life skills groups or individual discussions following the guidelines and principles of Recovery and Trauma Informed Care.
  • Demonstrates ability to document clearly, concisely, and accurately all individual and group meetings.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of HIPAA and obtains signed releases of information as needed prior to sharing information.
  • Demonstrates the ability to consistently use appropriate professional boundaries with clients, co-workers, and community stakeholders.  Be able effectively and professionally disengage from clients with whom they are no longer working with.  Strict compliance with all professional standards, Medicaid and Medicare regulations, agency policies and procedures.

Responsibilities of the FEP Peer Support Specialist include, but are not limited to, the following:  

Units Billed Minimum Requirement: 4.5 hours of billable hours of service per day.

Special Attributes:  Strong interpersonal skills, ability to make effective use of time and prioritize work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively with professionals and clients/families. Must have good communication skills and ability to read and write.  Must have computer skills sufficient to document in an electronic medical record.  Ability and willingness to work as a team member. Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.

Certificates, License, Registration: Must be a certified Peer Support Specialist or obtain Peer Support Certification within 6 months of hire.

Education and/or Experience: Minimum of high school diploma required. Must have Peer Support certification at time of hire or within 6 months.  Must meet all the requirements of background and experience per the state definition required for Peer Support certification.  Minimum of one (1) year related experience preferred.
