ABOUT THE ROLE:
SUMMARY:
The Peer Support Specialist provides peer support services to individuals with mental illness and co-occurring conditions. This role will function as a role model to peers by drawing on lived experiences and demonstrating effective coping and self-management skills. The Peer Support Specialist serves as a consumer advocate, providing information, support, and encouragement to individuals. This role will assist individuals in advancing their mental health recovery process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Duties and Responsibilities reflect the general details considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all related work assignments that may be inherent to the job.
- Provide crisis response for recipient 24/7/365.
- To provide immediate telephonic response to assess crisis and determine the risk, mental status, and appropriate response; provide face-to-face response as needed.
- Will work as a member of an interdisciplinary Mobile Crisis Response Team and other professionals to develop a plan for recipients and/or revise existing plan components as appropriate.
- Complete all documentation in a timely manner according to department policies and procedures. This includes mandated data tracking elements.
- Provide coordination of care, directly to the person and the family across transitions of care, including in agency services and community resources.
- Monitor the presenting mental illness and/or co-occurring symptoms.
- Help maintain the self-respect, personal dignity and physical safety of each recipient.
- Work cooperatively with all other staff and relate favorably to recipients and families.
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and consumer conferences or give advance notice to direct Supervisor as to reasons for inability to attend.
- Receive supervision by direct Supervisor.
- Report any changes in consumer’s condition, family situation, or needs to the appropriate personnel.
- Report any accident or incident to the direct Supervisor or Designee.
- Report to direct Supervisor or Designee any suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation of recipients.
- Be familiar with PPBH policies and procedures including the securing of emergency services.
- Be familiar with HIPAA regulations and abide by them.
- Assure consumer’s rights are met and maintain consumer confidentiality at all times.
- Obtain and keep current all training required by the agency.
- Complete all required trainings, CEU’s and Certifications for Peer Recovery Support Specialist.
- Able to work a flexible schedule which allows for evening and weekend hours as may be required to respond to individual needs.
- Able to drive to locations within the Program service area.
- Perform any other duties as required by Supervisor.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE

- High School Diploma or GED and one year experience.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations and policies regarding social service provision, reporting requirements, data practices and client rights.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural differences and special needs of various marginalized groups, and ability to consult with other providers regarding these.
- Knowledge of community resources including functions of other social service agencies.
- Knowledge of vulnerable adult laws and similar rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of peer recovery philosophy and practice as it applies to those adults with mental health challenges.
- Skill in consultation, problem solving and coordination of service delivery.
- Skill in providing support to individuals on a short-term basis.
- Ability to prioritize work.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective professional work relationships and therapeutic relationships with individuals.
- Ability to tolerate high levels of stress.
- COMPUTER SKILLS: Must have Intermediate to advanced experience in MS Office Suite and electronic devices (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid Class E Drivers’ License for positions that require driving personal or Agency vehicle on Agency business.
- Must maintain a minimum Bodily Injury & Property Liability insurance limit of at least $50,000 for positions that require driving personal own vehicle (POV) on Agency business.
- PPBH is a 24/7 Agency. All employees must be available as needed when required.
