AMHC is seeking a compassionate and recovery-oriented full-time Peer Recovery Coach in Ellsworth to provide non-clinical support services to individuals working to establish and maintain recovery from substance use disorders.
This role emphasizes respect, empowerment, self-direction, and hope, using lived experience to support others on their recovery journey.
Position Summary
The Peer Recovery Coach provides peer support, education, advocacy, and linkage to community resources for individuals with substance use disorders. This position works in a variety of community settings and promotes recovery-based care through relationship-building, role modeling, and practical support.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate Recovery-Based Values
- Maintain a personal belief in recovery and optimism for others’ success
- Respect and honor each individual’s unique recovery path

- Serve as a positive peer role model
Linkage to Assessment & Treatment Services
- Engage individuals in recovery centers, behavioral health settings, hospitals, shelters, law enforcement settings, and the community
- Conduct Recovery Capital Assessments and support the development of recovery goals and wellness plans
- Assist with referrals and coordination of mental health and substance use services
- Help remove barriers to care, including transportation when needed
- Connect individuals to housing, medical care, insurance, and workforce resources
Peer Support & Recovery Coaching
- Build trusting, supportive, non-judgmental relationships
- Provide emotional support and identify when additional intervention is needed
- Facilitate skill-building and psycho-educational groups (e.g., WRAP)
- Teach coping, self-care, problem-solving, and recovery skills
- Advocate for the needs of recoverees and support self-advocacy
- Share lived recovery experience in a purposeful, supportive way
Community Outreach & Education
- Participate in outreach activities
- Assist in educating families and the community about recovery and stigma reduction
- Offer recovery-focused trainings and in-services as needed
Policy, Documentation & Ethics
- Follow all agency policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards
- Complete required documentation and training
- Participate in meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development
- Identify opportunities for service improvement
