We’re hiring for a Peer Specialist to join our ACT/Care Team.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Peer Support Specialist has progressed in their own recovery from substance abuse or a mental health condition and self-identify as a peer. Because of their own life experiences, the peer can support others in crises and assist them in recovery so they can remain in their community. The peer support specialist provides outreach and acts as a role model, ally, mentor, planner, advocate, educator, and housing resource connector for clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES: As a Peer Specialist under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor of the Department, you will be:
- Informing, training, supporting, and empowering clients
- Establishing and maintaining professional boundaries and contacts in the workplace
- Understanding and respecting all aspects of client/employee confidentiality
- Assisting clients in articulating goals and needs, and advocating for self
- Providing information and housing resources to clients
- Linking clients to community resources/agencies
- Assisting clients in completing applications and or forms
- Promoting hope, personal responsibility, empowerment, education, and self-determination
- Conducts client home visits and assists clients in finding alternative housing, as needed
- Participate in community-based committees to address homelessness needs
- Assisting clients with housing resources
- Attending and participating in events, conferences, and trainings within the mental health system and in the community
- Assisting with trainings
- Assisting in clerical tasks as assigned, including but not limited to data collection, answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, prior authorization.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical requirements include the following:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time
- Frequently communicates with physicians about medical notes, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
- Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 15 pounds
- Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids
- Frequently operates a computer and other office equipment

QualificationsWhat we’re looking For—The Must-Haves
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Have a Peer Certification or the ability to obtain in 1 year
- Personal knowledge and experience with mental illness or substance abuse
- Computer proficiency
- Valid Colorado driver license, good driving record, and access to reliable transportation during work hours

- Experience working with HUD/DOH rules and regulations
- Ability to speak Spanish
