Description

Job Purpose:
- The Peer Specialist at LIFESTREAM BEHAVIORAL CENTER is responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges. Utilizing personal lived experiences, the Peer Specialist offers empathy, encouragement, and practical assistance to clients, fostering hope and promoting recovery. The role is pivotal in bridging the gap between clients and the mental health services available, ensuring that clients feel understood and supported throughout their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one peer support to clients, sharing personal experiences to inspire hope and motivation in their recovery process.
- Assist clients in identifying personal goals and developing strategies to achieve them, promoting self-advocacy and empowerment.
- Facilitate group sessions and workshops that focus on recovery, wellness, and self-care, encouraging peer-to-peer interaction and support.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure a holistic approach to client care, providing insights and feedback from a peer perspective.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress, adhering to organizational and legal standards.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to peer support services.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of clients within the organization and the broader community, promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect.
- Engage in community outreach activities to raise awareness about mental health and substance use issues, and the support services available at LIFESTREAM BEHAVIORAL CENTER.



Qualifications

Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist or eligible to become certified within 6 months of hire.

Required Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a mental health or substance use setting.
- Experience in providing peer support and advocacy for individuals with behavioral health needs.

Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively support and engage with clients.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in using basic computer applications and electronic health records.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle stressful situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development in the field of peer support.
