Under the supervision of the RCC Coordinator, this position performs peer support services to clients in the women’s residential program at Serenity Place. This includes support in the process of integrating into a community recovery program. Overall position objective is to assist clients in early recovery to promote and enhance long-term recovery goals. No supervisory requirements.
This position involves activities that require ability to lift 30 lbs., reaching, climbing and grasping. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing surroundings and activities. The worker is not subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Practical knowledge of peer to peer support, principles, and techniques
Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of substance use disorders
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, staff and other agencies
Strong knowledge of community resources
Ability to communicate clearly through both written and oral reports
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to handle crisis situations
Must have a valid SC Driver’s License and be able to provide proof of insurance
High School Diploma and at least 3 years continuous recovery from a substance use disorder. Must have knowledge of and experience with community recovery resources and basic computer skills (testing required). Prior recovery advocacy experience is highly desired. Successful candidate must be able to become certified as Peer Support Specialist through DAODAS.
