PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST 

A Peer Support Specialist provides support and guidance to individuals who are undergoing certain challenges or transitions. They help individuals develop their skills and confidence and assist them in making a successful transition from incarceration to community living. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Provides one-on-one mentoring to people in a community correction setting.
  • Assists clients in obtaining services to help them make a successful transition from incarceration to community living.
  • Promotes recovery, wellness, and healthy lifestyle behaviors.
  • Provides program orientation for all new clients.
  • Arrangesa nd supervisesappropriate leisureactivities for clients.
  • Develops and facilitates skills-based peer support groups.
  • Assists with crisis intervention. 
  • Provides mentoring, crisis management, and addiction recovery support.
  • Servesas an advocate for clients experiencing programmatic or behavioral struggles.
  • Supports clients as they work through social or emotional barriers to stay motivated to reach their goals.
  • Accompanies clients to court, and other appointments for support and advocacy as well as sober support groups.
  • Assists clients with self-determined goal setting.
  • Maintains appropriateand professional boundaries with clients. 
  • Accurately documentsall activitiesasrequired.
  • Develops and maintainsa resource directory for use by clients.
  • Assistin arranging and providing transportation for community appointments and services.
  • Reports safety concerns to the appropriate staff.
  • Participatesin multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Frequently travels within El Paso County and Colorado State as needed to meet with clients and provide client opportunities.
  • Promotes and demonstrates the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Embrave.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with all departments, the management team, regulatory agencies, and community partners.
  • Embraces cultural diversity amongst ourselves and our community.
  • Responsible for the human, financial, and material resources as well as the data and information entrusted to us.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:  None 


EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE:  A high school diploma, or equivalent. Certified as a Colorado Peer and Family Specialist (CPFS) or National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS).
