Job Summary

As a Peer Mentor for the Crossroads Utah AHEC Pre-Health Summer Program, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for high school students. You will work closely with the Crossroads Utah AHEC team and other staff members to introduce and expose students to a variety of health professions, educational pathways, and career opportunities.

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, Peer Mentors will guide and assist program participants, foster a sense of community, and serve as a key resource throughout the program. As a Peer Mentor, you will also have the opportunity to share your experience as a former Crossroads AHEC student and model academic and personal success for high school students.

Note: This is a temporary position with a start date of June 1, 2026, and an end date of July 22, 2026. Candidates must commit to working the full duration of the program, averaging 25–30 hours per week.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Attend all required Peer Mentortraining, including additional SLCC online employeetrainings
  • Provide program information to students in both large and small group settings
  • Assist with event planning and program implementation
  • Support Pre-Health Summer Program students with curriculum and activities
  • Help problem-solve common challenges students may encounter
  • Maintain arespectfuland inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff
  • Attend classes and help facilitate community-building activities
  • Attend and support students during all program field trips
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrate strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Present to large groups and provide one-on-one support as needed
  • Collaborate effectively with staff and community partners
  • Utilize basic computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Communicate effectively with individuals fromvariousbackgrounds,communities, cultures, and abilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Crossroads AHEC team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities

Minimum qualifications

  • Completion of some coursework in science or health-related fields
  • Previous participation in a Crossroads Utah AHEC program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a Pre-Health Summer Program participant
  • Warm, personable, and flexible demeanor with the ability to help others feel comfortable
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs
  • Familiarity with careers in healthcare
