Peer Services, Part time
Normal Work Hours/Days: Varied schedule, generally Monday-Friday, 8 am - 4 pm
Peer Services encourages and supports individuals with successful management of their mental health recovery. Peer Services supports individuals transitioning to more independent living or hospital discharge using four primary service interventions:
* Engagement in a personal, positive, supportive relationship with a peer
* Involvement in an array of Peer Support Meetings located both in the hospital, and in the community
* Linkage to a broad range of community-based service and natural supports
* Teaching community adjustment and wellness self-management skills
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Peer Specialist provides intensive support through a personalized balance of social, recreational, skill teaching and linkage development services for individual match relationships

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Motor vehicle
Valid Alabama driver's license and driving record acceptable to agency automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy. If using personal vehicle must show and maintain car insurance equal to or in excess of the State of Alabama standards for automobile insurance coverage.
Must attain Certification upon hire and maintain certification.
Must demonstrate lived experience with Mental illness and be a role model to others pursuing recovery
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Have demonstrated experience in using the power and potential of your own recovery story as a tool to educate and inspire peers and non-peer staff.
Must be a good role model and be in active recovery for their own mental health challenges.
Have the ability to convey a message of hope and recovery for people with mental health challenges.
Have demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Alabama State public mental health system,
Have demonstrated knowledge of advocacy, self-help and empowerment programs for people who are receiving mental health services
Have the ability to complete basic documentation requirements regarding work activities
