Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) Supervisor - Full Time.  On-site Calverton, NY.

The RSS Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, performance, and support of Recovery Support Specialists within an inpatient setting. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. The RSS Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, and accountability to staff, while collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary team to support patient recovery and program effectiveness.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and support to RSS staff, including onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management 
  • Ensure staff adherence to facility policies, procedures, and documentation standards 
  • Oversee unit operations to maintain safety, structure, and compliance with program rules and regulations 
  • Support RSS staff in facilitating therapeutic groups and provide guidance on group content, engagement, and effectiveness, as needed/assigned
  • Monitor patient milieu and staff interactions to ensure a therapeutic, respectful, and recovery-oriented environment 
  • Respond to and oversee crisis intervention and de-escalation efforts, providing leadership during medical,clinical and psychiatric emergencies 
  • Conduct audits of documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulatory standards 
  • Collaborate with nursing, clinical, and medical teams to coordinate patient care and address concerns 
  • Participate in and contribute to interdisciplinary team meetings, providing feedback on patient progress and milieu dynamics 
  • Ensure completion of belongings searches, room checks, and safety protocols in accordance with policy 
  • Oversee patient movement, including off-site appointments and transportation coordination, escorts as needed 
  • Address patient and staff concerns in a timely, professional manner, escalating issues when appropriate
  • Develop and manage RSS staff schedules, assign daily unit responsibilities, and ensure accuracy and compliance with staff timecards
  • Ensure RSS are completing trainings as scheduled
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement among RSS staff 
  • Ensure delivery of care is culturally sensitive and aligned with organizational mission, vision, and values

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The RSS Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and coordination of daily unit operations to ensure a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff. This includes supervising and supporting RSS staff, developing schedules, assigning daily responsibilities, and ensuring accurate timekeeping practices. The supervisor monitors patient engagement in treatment, supports staff in implementing program expectations, and provides guidance during crisis situations, including de-escalation and emergency response. They collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to promote continuity of care, ensure timely and accurate documentation, and uphold compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. The role also requires maintaining appropriate unit supplies, overseeing safety protocols such as searches and room checks, and fostering a culturally sensitive, recovery-oriented environment aligned with organizational values. Occasional computer and phone, general office equipment use.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or its educational equivalent
  • General knowledge of substance uses and/or mental health disorders
  • BLS certification within 60 daysof hire, current BLS cert preferred
  • Demonstrated communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
  • Current NYS driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate, CRPA
  • Familiarity with relevant healthcare standards: OASAS, ASAM, etc.
  • Knowledge of Self-Help Programs, Mutual Support groups Programs, and 12-step programs
  • Specific experience with substance use disorders
